| Each interfaced S5 PLC can be accessed via the individual IP-address of the referring NETLink S5. The IP-address can be adjusted manually as a static value or sourced via a DHCP server. The NETLink S5 can be operated also while being connected to a router. All configuration is easy to be done through the S5-LAN-manager for Windows. This software is part of the scope of delivery.
In contrast to simple Ethernet-converters the NETLink S5 provides a reliable and robust communication. Through its smart firmware the NETLink S5 allows a timing suitable communication with the related S5. Due to multiplexing this software as well enables programming and visualization at the same time.
The included driver allocates a virtual COM-interface for STEP5 to the referring S5 PLC via the IP-address. This VCOM interface supports the operation of an AS511-driver too. For visualization and process data collection the use of the integrated TCP/IP server is recommended. This practically enables any computer independent of the operational system to exchange data with the connected S5 PLC via the NETLink S5.
The NETLink S5 in combination with SOFTING's S7/S5 OPC-Server provides an open and scalable solution to interface S5-networks with SCADA-systems or visualization software via their integrated OPC-Clients.
